At Mother Hubbard, we are looking forward to starting school again in the fall, and we hope that your child will be part of our classroom! Please call us at (734) 421-8457 to schedule your tour. At Mother Hubbard, we believe in the power of play. Our play-based program has extensive benefits for our three-year-old and four-year-old preschool students. In fact, students often hear from their teachers that their most important job of the day is to play!
These are some of the benefits of play in early childhood education programs for you to consider: Play Helps Children Develop Their Language Skills While playing with one another, children in preschool spend a lot of time talking and listening. This is one of the best ways for them to improve their understanding of language, to learn how to have conversation and to develop their listening skills. Play Allows Students to Socialize During playtime, students have the opportunity to interact with their friends in an age-appropriate way. These interactions can at times lead to confrontation — but it is through these interactions that they learn. They begin to understand social norms and they learn how to interact in a group setting. When students begin a three-year preschool program, they often start out enjoying side-by-side play. By the time they finish their four-year preschool program, they are often enjoying interactive play with their classmates. Play Develops Fine and Gross Motor Skills Play is one of the easiest ways to help young learners develop their fine and gross motor skills. In our classroom, fine motor skill development is encouraged through stringing beads, working with play dough and creating art projects. Gross motor development is encouraged by allowing students to enjoy our climbing equipment and offering plenty of movement activities. Play Encourages Creativity Preschool students are notorious for having amazing imaginative skills. However, they can only put these skills to use if they are given plenty of unstructured, open-ended play time. We love watching our students come up with new ways to enjoy their time in the classroom together. Mother Hubbard preschoolers enjoy ample free time during class, allowing them to explore the classroom centers and choose what they want to play with. Our classroom includes a variety of play areas and centers, appealing to students of all interests and abilities. For example, we have a dress up area, pretend kitchen, play dough table, artist easels, blocks and more. We rotate our toys and centers, often setting out items that complement our current weekly theme. Mother Hubbard provides snacks for its preschool classes every day, and the students are always excited to hear what Miss Roxy is serving!
Here’s three things you need to know about snack time at preschool: Snacks Are Provided As Part of Our Program In many other preschool programs in the area, parents are required to send in snacks for their children each day or pay an extra fee to have a snack provided. At Mother Hubbard, snack is included as part of your tuition, and every child is provided with a snack during each class period. Snack Time Often Coincides with Our Curriculum Miss Roxy is famous for planning fun, creative and healthy snacks for our preschool students! Many weeks, the snack will somehow coincide with the current theme of the week. For example, when the color of the week is orange, the snack may be fresh orange slices. It’s always fun to see the students making the connection between their daily snack and the topic they are learning about at school. Allergies Are Accommodated at Mother Hubbard At Mother Hubbard, we accommodate students with food allergies. If your child has a food allergy, please contact the preschool to discuss how they can safely enjoy snack time with the class. When your child celebrates their birthday at Mother Hubbard, they will have the opportunity to bring in a birthday treat to share with the class during snack time! In the past, birthday treats have included cupcakes, popsicles, popcorn, cookies, pretzels and fresh fruit. Students love to share their favorite snacks with their preschool friends! For more information about snack time at our preschool in Livonia, contact us today. At Mother Hubbard, we offer our three-year and four-year students the opportunity to learn in a play-based setting. On a typical day at our Livonia preschool, the class will enjoy circle time, snack time and an art project, while having plenty of time to make their own choices as to what they would like to experience in the classroom.
However, not every day is a typical day at Mother Hubbard. We incorporate innovative classroom experiences into our curriculum, which provide students with unique learning opportunities. Some of our classroom experiences include: Special Visitors to Our Classroom Throughout the school year, both the three-year and four-year classes will enjoy special visitors. The Music Lady loves to sing and dance with our preschoolers, while Mother Goose arrives ready to teach the students all about nursery rhymes. We also have visits from the church pastor, a local veterinarian and others during the year. Holiday Parties We love to celebrate the holidays at Mother Hubbard! Our students enjoy classroom celebrations for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter. Special Learning Days We often take advantage of opportunities to incorporate special learning days into our curriculum. The three-year-old class, for example, participates in Bakery Day. Together with the teachers, they learn how to bake their own cake and decorate their own cupcakes. Other special days include Paradise Day, Gingerbread Day and Bike Day. Our classroom experiences often complement our current theme for the week, and add an extra element to our curriculum. The students find these experiences to be both fun and memorable, and we love seeing their reactions as they discover something new for the first time! Summer is upon us, and many parents are already looking ahead to the new school year. If you feel that your child is ready for preschool, then the next step is to find the right program.
Here’s a few things you should look for in a Livonia preschool: A Play-Based Curriculum Research shows that play-based curriculums provide students with the most advantages in both the short- and long-term. Children do serious learning while they are playing, and our program provides students with ample free time to enjoy different activities and interact with the other students. A Low Teacher:Student Ratio You will want to make sure that your preschooler gets the individual care and attention that they need, which is why the teacher:student ratio is important. At our school, there are three teachers in the classroom at all times. Our three-year class is limited to 18 students, while our four-year class can accommodate 22 students. A Safe, Welcoming Classroom Environment The classroom environment plays a crucial role in your child’s preschool experience. You will want to feel confident that your child is in a place where they feel safe and loved. Our Livonia preschool prides itself on being a place where students can enjoy a wide variety of activities and experiences. We rotate our toys and classroom stations based on the current curriculum theme, and we strive to incorporate the weekly subjects into every aspect of the day. As one of the best Livonia preschools, we go above and beyond to provide our students with an amazing preschool experience. Our school differentiates itself from other preschool programs by:
We hope that you choose Mother Hubbard for your child’s preschool. Contact us today to learn more about our three-year and four-year preschool programs. You know that your three-year-old is physically and emotionally ready for preschool, but you’re not quite sure if now is the right time to enroll them in a Livonia preschool program. Countless parents find themselves facing this same question: Does my child really need to go to three-year-old preschool?
Research has shown that there are both short-term and long-term benefits to early childhood education. Here’s just a few of the benefits our three-year-old preschool in Livonia can offer your child: An Ability to Listen, Take Direction and Cooperate in a Classroom Environment For many preschool students, this is their first experience with listening to an adult who is not a family member or caregiver. Listening skills take time and plenty of practice to develop, and preschool is a caring, nurturing environment where they can learn to listen to directions and cooperate with other students. An Opportunity to Play Play is the hard work of preschoolers. Research continues to show that play is the best way for young children to learn, and our play-based program provides students with hands-on learning opportunities throughout the entire school day. A Chance to Grow Emotionally and Socially Three-year-old children are just learning to regulate their emotions and to adjust to social norms. In the preschool classroom, they can test their boundaries and make mistakes in a loving environment where they feel safe and secure. The three-year-old students at our Livonia preschool spend their days having fun, without even realizing that they are doing the hard work of learning. Our play-based program gives children the freedom to enjoy the classroom space while introducing them to the concept of a classroom structure. For more information on what our three-year-old preschool program has to offer, contact us today. Preschool is a milestone moment in a child’s life, but it can be difficult for parents to know if their child is ready. Wondering if now is the right time to enroll your child in a three-year-old preschool program in Livonia? Here’s a few signs to look out for:
Ability to Concentrate Don’t worry — your child doesn’t need to sit still for an hour in order to be ready for preschool. For a three-year-old entering preschool, concentration is still a skill that they are working on and one that will be developed during their time in the classroom. Prior to starting school, they should be able to sit for the duration of a picture book or focus on a minor task for about 10 to 15 minutes. Increased Independence A child who is ready for preschool is going to start showing more signs of independence. For some, the first sign of independence is that they are willing to play without adult interaction or redirection for 10 or 15 minutes. For others, the initial sign of independence is choosing the food that they want to eat at a meal or feeding themselves. Fully Potty Trained At our Livonia preschool, children must be fully potty trained before enrolling. This means that your child knows when they need to go to the bathroom, and can go to the bathroom independently. If you feel that your child is showing these signs and more, then now is the perfect time to sign them up for three-year preschool in Livonia. Children who will be 3 years old on or before September 1 are able to enroll at Mother Hubbard Nursery School. Contact us to learn more about our engaging Livonia preschool. Please join us on Tuesday, February 23rd at 7pm for our 2016 Open House. The Open House will last about an hour and will give you an opportunity to see the classroom and ask any questions.
